Solar Energy Fort Irwin Solar Power Plant
Aug.03, 2009 in Solar Energy
In October 2008 it was announced that a solar power plant was planned at the Fort Irwin base in the Mojave Desert in California. This installation is to have a capacity of 500MW, originally generated from thermal solar power.
Further news has just been released regarding the project and a couple of development partners have been announced for the project, namely Clark Energy Group and Acciona Solar Power. Details about the source of the solar power has also been revised with the revelation that it won’t be coming from a single solar power plant but instead, a series of projects will be created spread over 14,000 acres of desert land. Can You Dream Of A Better Energy Tomorrow

New Governments program "Cash for clunkers" is working to well in some ways, and not as well enough in others.

While they may be getting some of the high MPH cars off of the road, they are not getting a lot of the older worst polluters of the road, due to the cost of a new can even with the $4800 Government discount, there a lot without adequate credit or enough income, to trade in the older worse vehicles on the road. I would swap my old clunker for a number of the ones I have seen being traded in, to be destroyed.
But it has worked well enough that the Government clunker for cash web site has been so flooded the dealers can not get the deals through, and they have run out of funds, only to have to appropriate 2 billion more.
Looking forward it is hard to remember that your objective is to drain the streets of clunkers when you are up to your posterior in liberal agendas to destroy the country! First destroy our monetary system with incalculable debt, mess up the not perfect but best medical system in the world. Use the Cap and Trade to place an energy tax on every man, woman, child and business in America. Refuse to stop the bleeding of America's funds to foreign oil mongers who Obama the great one bowed down to. And refuse to allow us to develop the tremendous oil reserves we have here, or build new refineries, or develop better clean coal, or use safe nuclear power.
They continue to want to do many other things to bring us down by tearing down the family unit, claim that we are not a Christian nation, take God out of our public life and then wonder why things are going to heck in a hand basket.
The best answer is always is it is not my fault, look what they did before me. They kept us safe, they did not call for bringing down our armies and arsenals to a weaker standpoint so we cannot defend ourselves like Obama is calling for.
We must take every step possible to get energy independent now, ASAP. Time and money is running out. There are to many ways for renewable energy, to available sources that we have been unable to develope because of screaming liberal environmentalist. In the northwest right now they are letting while Forrest get diseased and die, because they have put the people who know how to care for the forest out of business, and with it whole towns and populations have died with it.
We better see the future in light of today. People and their livelihoods, and expertise are more important than the ideology of a few liberals who now have their satisfaction of stopping industries, only to seeing America die slow death for lack of jobs, and energy, and money, and a satisfaction of knowing a goods pay for a good days work.
Rant over for now.

There are a lot of new web sites who promote Water for Gas type of re-engineering of gasoline engines to run on a mixture of hydrogen, oxygen, and Gasoline in such a mixture that it will nearly double your current gas millage.
http://www.water4gas.com/
Listen to Water4Gas on the famous KROQ Radio Show

What is Water4Gas logo?

  • Safe hydrogen from water

  • Clean the air you breathe - drastically reduce exhaust emissions

  • Boost your engine's power, even on big rigs

  • Save on maintenance costs

  • IMPROVE FUEL ECONOMY - for energy independence!!!

  • Great for cars, trucks, boats, generators, heating

  • 100-yea

r-old technology tested and proven by NASA and many others.

This is just one of many of these sites now on the web it would seem that some are just taking advantage of a new technology and are probably scams. However some are ligament. Do the research. This would allow you to have a larger car, even an dreaded SUV and reduce emissions, and nerly doubble your millage.

More good news on energy soon!

We must call our Senators and tell them not to pass the energy bill! it is the greatest taxation to America we have had yet! It will cost you the Home ome owner more than any other tax you have ever paid. it will cost you the car owner the same way. You are being told one thing and it is a bold face lie. Read the Bill and all it's amendments. Most of the people voting on it are being told not to read it just vote yes. That alone should be a warning sign!!!

More Cool Car Concepts

Hey Guys And Gals, We Are starting out with some concept vehicles from Device.com

Concept car with rotating tires reminds us how terrible we are at parallel parking!

The NASA concept car (which, as far as we can tell, has nothing to do with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, though it looks like astronauts are driving it) has some pretty radical features that are immediately appealing. It has a sleek hood rather than doors — keeping the passengers more stable and safe — and dynamic wheels they'll let you pull off hairpin turns, allow the car to move perpendicularly in a snap, and even spin in place.

MAG magnetic car concept is a MAGnificent car of the future

Let’s just leapfrog all those other ideas for energy-saving car tech and hop into this magnetically-driven ride, shall we? While Slovak designer Matúš Procháczka’s concept is prettier than sexy four-inch spike heels, it’ll definitely take some major infrastructure modification to make it a reality. It requires all roads to have embedded magnetic panels, quite a job for the millions of miles of highways and byways all over the world today.

The British Steam Car Challenge

Countdown to World of Speed, Bonneville, USA(15 – 21 September 2008)

The British Steam Car Challenge was officially launched in June of 1999 at the Beaulieu Motor Museum with numerous distinguished guests in attendance including many of the current team members and founding sponsors.
The project patron is Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, and the car is eventually to be retired on loan to the Motor Museum Trust at Beaulieu. It is hoped that the car will continue to benefit public awareness of ecologically friendly technologies and the efforts put forth by the team and its sponsors.
The project was initiated by Mr. Bill Rich and taken up by Dr. Neil Richardson and Dr. Richard Bowen of the University of Southampton. Additional information about the ongoing involvement of Dr. Richardson can be found later in this document.
This project couples the wealth of steam knowledge gained from Victorian times onward with some of the most advanced technologies known to man. It promises to be a stepping stone in the direction of the future of transportation technologies and will undoubtedly bring widespread visibility to “clean” technologies. Read about this project at their web site here!

Some Unusual Finds

Peugeot 888 future car is a concept done right: shape-shifting and green
The Peugeot 888 is billed as the "personal vehicle for the future Metropolis." For designer Oskar Johansen from Norway, that means a car with space for two with room for luggage, as well as a nifty shape-shifting body. On the highway, the Peugeot 888 stretches itself out flat so that it's stable and aerodynamic. In the city, however, it scrunches up for easier parking and taking up less of the road in general. Wind powered Greenbird ready to break land speed record

You normally don't hear the terms green friendly and land speed record in the same sentence, although that may change if a group of tree hugging speed freaks from Britain get their way. Currently, they are poised on a dry lake bed in Australia waiting for favorable wind conditions, so they can attempt to break the wind driven land speed record which stands at 116.7 MPH. That might sound kind of slow compared to the jet powered record, but is still pretty amazing for something with zero carbon emissions.

Seat Brisa, the solar-powered love seat of the sports car world!

The Seat Brisa is a sports car, but not the kind that'll burn rubber down the road with a gas-guzzling roar. Instead, its hood is covered with photo-voltaic cells that power an electric engine tied to the rear motor. Designer Miguel Ángel Iranzo Sánchez of Spain remarked in his notes, "As sail boats are propelled by the wind, the Seat Brisa is propelled by the sun."

Renewable Energy Ideas

Renewable Energy includes many types of energy gathering such as wind, solar, thermal, water or hydro-electric, tide or wave generated electric, and others. We need to do more to see these usesd in every way posible in our energy makeup to lower our energy cost and independance on foriegn oil.
Where I live in Nonth Alabama we are on TVA and use a combination of Necluear and Hydro -Electric, but they just anounced a 20% rate hike starting next month for our area and related it to cost of coal increase. Now I know that coal is about 60% of americas power generation but not in my area.
I beleive I have enough sun and wind at my house if I could afford it to significantly reduce my utility bills, if i can find enound enough encentivefs in the area to help pay for their purchase and instalation.

Here Are A Few Excerpts From Renewable Energy Basics (PDF)
Renuable Energy (RE) systems retain their value and lower your power bill and as electricity costs increase, the payback time for an RE system decreases. On top of this, RE users are immediately contributing to a cleaner planet. These days, most grid connected residential and commercial RE installations around the country are based on environmental principles and values, not on an economic payback period. A REnstallation based purely on generates back to the electric company for credit to further reduce your electric bill. Depending upon the size of your system and your energy use, you may be able to offset some of your electricity bill. You still pay the monthly distribution service fee to the utility, any demand charges (for commercial buildings), and for any electric energy (kWh) which you used that was not offset by your own system. The utility electric system still provides electricity when you need it. Power outages may still occur with a grid-intertie system, and the rates the utility charges are still regulated.
• The second type of RE use is the Stand-alone, a system in which 100 percent of your electricity comes from a clean source completely separate of the utility. This approach is used where conventional power line extensions are too expensive or a residence or business wishes to be completely autonomous and independent of power fluctuations, outages and bills. Stand-alone systems cost more up front because a battery bank and controls are needed to store and regulate electricity when conditions are not favorable for RE power production (at night for solar electric, calm times for.... see the rest at http://www.northwesternenergy.com/documents/E+Programs/E+RenewableEnergy.pdf

When Foust wrote that sentence in 1980 to open a paper about extracting clean, renewable energy from the ocean, the news headlines didn’t look all that different than today.Political conflict in the Middle East had sent the price of oil to crisis levels. The Department of Energy supported research into energy sources other than fossil fuels. Geothermal Energy
Old Faithful Geyser in Yellowstone National Park
The mission of the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) Geothermal Program is to work in partnership with U.S. industry to establish geothermal energy as an economically competitive contributor to the U.S. energy supply. Since 1974, the INL has been a key laboratory in executing the Department of Energy’s Geothermal Program, investigating and developing geothermal resource technologies for both direct use and electricity generation, particularly those resources considered marginally economical. Working closely with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and other national laboratories, the INL ensures availability of nationally recognized geothermal leadership to implement a successful national program.

NEW "The Future of Geothermal Energy – Impact of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) on the United States in the 21st Century," a report prepared by an MIT-led interdisciplinary panel, was released to the public January 22, 2007. The report suggests that 100,000 MWe of electrical generation capacity can be met through EGS within 50 years with a modest investment in R&D. (14.1MB PDF)
