I got an email from a energy organization about clean coal that had some good things to say. On the blog part of the site I thought this was good:
The Candidates on Coal
Energy is the theme on the campaign trail this week.
While McCain was stumping in the Midwest and touring a nuclear plant, Obama on Monday declared this week as “Energy Week,” and announced his energy plan. Both candidates’ have voiced their support for clean coal technology, and their respective energy plans include funding for more research and development.

Clean coal has a great future, Clean coal technology: How it workshas a article on it.
When burned, coal is the dirtiest of all fossil fuels but a range of technologies are being used and developed to reduce the environmental impact of coal-fired power stations. Collectively, they are known as clean coal technology (CCT).

Promote Energy Independence By Building More Clean Coal Power Plants
New technologies make it possible to use more coal to meet our energy needs. We should look for ways to build more clean coal power plants in Virginia. This would help us become more energy independent, but it would also help Virginia’s coal counties find more markets for their product.

Newer ideas behind the "clean coal" phrase are gasification -- a thermo-chemical, non-burning way to get energy from coal -- and carbon capture and storage/sequestration (CCS). Remember the great idea of sending nuclear waste into space? CCS is the carbon counterpart: Take our world-destroying gas and pump it into underground holes or deep ocean caverns.

Investing in Clean Coal Technologies:
How to "Capture" Profits in the Clean Coal Industry August 20th, 2008
Fact: Coal generates nearly 50% of the electricity consumed in the United States.
And despite the recent push to adopt clean energy sources, coal is likely going to remain king for the foreseeable future.
But the way in which we conventionally use coal is drastically changing.
You see, the fuel itself is being treated to burn cleaner. And numerous technologies are being developed that harness the noxious gases from the flue, known as carbon capture.

Historic clean coal summit delivers strong outcomes for NSW
A number of positive ideas to advance clean coal technologies have been generated at today’s NSW Clean Coal Summit held at Parliament House, Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources Ian Macdonald said today.
The summit, which featured Professor Ross Garnaut, was attended by around 150 delegates from the mining, investment, infrastructure and research industries, along with State and Federal Government Department representatives.
"The discussions between experts from industry and government were extremely constructive, and their work on this issue is not only vital for NSW but for the entire world," Mr Macdonald said.
